Snow Cream!!!!

snow cream 2

Okay, it isn’t the dead of winter but yesterday, we finally had a snow that was a real snow and worthy of making snow cream. What is snow cream? It is ice cream made of snow. Very simple but delicious stuff. You can flavor it or not. I prefer the simple vanilla snow cream from my childhood.  Some of you may get more snow.  If not, wait for next year and fix it every chance you get.  You can add fruit, sprinkles, cocoa…..whatever.  Enjoy!!

I tell you, life doesn’t get any better.  A bowl of snow cream being eaten by the fireplace and watching the NCAA tournament – especially Duke beating Creighton!

How to Make

1 cup of milk, cream, half and half, evaporated milk – your choice.  I use half and half.

1 – 2  teaspoons vanilla

1/2 – 1 cups sugar

CLEAN Snow

Mix the milk, vanilla and sugar, until sugar is dissolved.  Pre-mix the first three ingredients. Then put on your warm clothes and go outside to collect the snow. Snow melts quickly!  Mix this up outside.  Don’t pack the snow, just scoop it up in a large bowl. Slowly add the snow to your mixture, stirring constantly, until it is as thick as ice cream. Now it is ready to eat and enjoy.

Be sure you use clean snow.  Use snow that is fluffy and not partially frozen from sleet and rain.

Finally, a use for all the snow we get up here! I thought the only thing it was good for was giving me a good workout without having to go to the gym 😛
