Falling Through Blue
Falling through blue –
Through the layers of cerulean, azure
Dappled with lapis
And tingled with turquoise –
Falling into blue
Emerging wet and sparkling
With scales and flashing fins.
Breathing in the blue skies
And breathing out the blue moon.
Falling through blue –
Falling falling
And landing on a huge pile of powder blue stars
Bright against deepest midnight blue
Falling through blue into the
unearthly beauty of morning glory blue lake.
Drowning in blue
Resurrecting into sky blue
Eternal as Egyptian blue –
first color of creation –
sky and sea.
Tattooed with wode
painted in tombs
blessed by the gods
Written through the ages.
water lilies – blue on blue on blue.
The sky of blue bewitches
and your eyes capture me in their blueness…
every day.

Oh, Toni. This is wonderful. I am deeply enamored of this:
    “tingled with turquoise”
and the spill of “blue on blue on blue.” Gorgeous.

And can I just say, if you search my site, you will find approximately one million poems with the word “blue” in the title…some of them with the same title, because my brain forgets. However, I don’t think I have ever played with the title “Falling Through Blue.” I am, quite simply, crazy about it. ❤

A million titles, blue….green has always been my favorite color but blue draws me and holds me. I will never gaze at a field the way I gaze at water. The man who fell to earth is a favorite. I kept seeing him falling through the blue…I’m glad blue is finally a prompt. Perfection.

Everything about this is wondrous and makes me want to drag out my paints and play with blue. Blue is a special color to me, too. A couple of years ago I spent a birthday in SF with a childhood friend and she gave me a gorgeous blue stole, reminding me of how it was the color I used to choose when I was little. This is a gorgeous immersion in blue.

    My favorite lines:
    first color of creation –
    sky and sea.

Even before those I thought of mermaids. Maybe it was the fins and scales. Thank you Toni!

I really like your central image of falling… falling through blue, through art. And especially how the poem itself falls down structurally. Very nice.

I love all the shades of blue and blue. The ending is gorgeous with:

    blue on blue on blue.
    The sky of blue bewitches
and your eyes capture me in their blueness…
    every day.

So captivating! I could feel myself falling…and it was a great ride. The artwork is perfect, too.

Purely and beautifully blue, Toni! I love where you take us with your blue hues, falling, falling through blue after blue. I love it!

You gave us a Zen free-fall through dimensional shifts, through plastic people, through the eyes of antiquity; a marvelous ride indeed, with blue rolling wide, then thin, like the blue anaconda eating its tail.

Oh Toni!!!! “first color of creation” —- I do a “guided meditation” each morning — a wonderful voice that takes me into the sea as I lie on the floor with eyes closed, arms outstretched. Relaxed. Listening. Feeling my body floating in the sea. Your words, I imagined them read aloud by this voice. I found myself falling, floating, engulfed in all these wondrous blues. This truly could be a guided meditation. And for me, sitting here this morning with my first morning cup, it is a glorious way to start my day.
PS: Blues reading today; haibun reading tomorrow. It is a joy to catch up — especially with a poem like this! 🙂 Happy Wednesday my friend. May you find peace and relaxation today….and perhaps allow yourself to go falling into blue! 🙂

STUNNING! ! The repetition of “blue” in so many phrases sekes to accelerate as the poem progresses, giving this piece a breath taking intensity. One of my favorites of your works!
