De is our prompter this Monday at dVerse Poets Pub. It is the Quadrille feature for this Monday. A quadrille is a 44 word poem, not including the title and must include the word of the prompter. She is prompting us to use the word “leaves” as in leaves that fall from tree, leaves as in he, she, it leaves; leaves of grass, book leaves. Even leaving or leave. Come join us and see what shakes loose from the tree! https://dversepoets.wordpress.com/2016/08/29/quadrille-15/
Leaves are leaving
Summer is leaving,
Leaves drop delicately
One.at.a.time.
Leaves know when it is time
better than we.
There are a few early to the party
but leaves know when to leave.
It is time for autumn –
We say.
Leaves know when it is time to

It was great getting to know you, Toni. I’m returning to school and will catch you during breaks for more dVerse fun. So sad summer is leaving. Love this:

so much. They do know, don’t they? We could take our cues from them, for sure. Loved this, Toni.

Thank you! I may do another but am dreadfully busy right now so probably will just do the one.

Great use of punctuation and structure, Toni. I love the autumn but I think it’s wonderful that our cousins over the pond call it fall!

Enjoyed this.

Toni, this touched me deeply right now as I’ve just been through such a struggle with someone who is having such a hard time leaving. I want to be like a leaf when it is my time.

Lovely. I like the you structured the ending of the poem to resemble falling leaves.

Charming, Toni, yes, the leaves know when it is the perfect time to leave…and fall. I like your falling fall at the end!

Clever, and so apt.

They sure don’t miss a cue so they say!

Love everything about this….especially the notion that nature (leaves) know when it is time to leave, better than we. Use of f…..a…..l…..l…..down and across the page at the end is very effective!

I really like the personification and perspective of the leaves and how they know when to depart, when to fall. It made me envious of their insight as I could have used it this past week. A lovely quadrille, Toni.

Thank you Mish. I understand totally.

All of this poem is lovely, but the last few lines are stunning and clever.

Thank you!

This poem feels meditative… almost as if order is restored to the universe as long as leaves know when to leave. And they will leave on time regardless of how we feel about it. Loved it.

I love the tone and pace. And I thought it was clever to separate “fall” into four lines. Very nice! 🙂
