dVerse Poets Pub – Quadrille Monday

Today is Quadrille Monday here at the dVerse Poets Pub.  Victoria is our prompter and pubtender for today.  She is prompting us to use the word “open” in our poems or any derivative thereof:  opened, opening. opens, opener.  A quadrille is a short poetic form consisting of exactly 44 words using the prompted word.  The title does not count in the word count.  Come join us for some remarkable short and easily read poem on the dVerse site.  Who knows?  You might just discover you enjoy poetry! http://dversepoets.com/2016/09/12/opening-to-the-muse-dverse-quadrille-16/

Open my eyes to blue
Open my eyes to blue
open my heart to the swirling freedom
of blue
open my soul to the ocean in the sky
to the rich blue
and swirling white capped waves
crashing against trees. fields –
buildings, mountains
Open my eyes to blue

I especially like how you sandwiched the beautiful openings between the lines “open my eyes to blue.” Such a relaxing color and poem–might be a good time to surround yourself in blue, Toni.

Just yesterday my son asked, “What if the sky was green instead of blue? How would that change the emotions we assign to colors?” I suppose if that were the case, you’d have to open your eyes to green, but it wouldn’t have quite the same ring as this lovely Quadrille.

We sky watchers applause you, for lying in the grass scoping the sky is the essence of meditation & contemplation; love your line /open my soul to the ocean in the sky/. Puts me in mind of the ocean within.

There’s beauty in your poem and also I sense a real strength too…almost like your essence is fueled by that blue, Toni.

The blue of the sky always calms me…makes me feel like my life is not enclosed, but infinite in possibilities, imagination and hope. You have captured that feeling for me in this quadrille.

    Reminds me of Joni Mitchell:

    ‘Blue, songs are like tattoos
You know I’ve been to sea before
    Crown and anchor me
    Or let me sail away

Blue, here is a shell for you
    Inside you’ll hear a sigh
    A foggy lullaby
There is your song from me’
