Melting Snow
The snow is melting.
It reveals sins committed over the
seven days it lay there, doing nothing
except melting.
A dead blue jay,
sodden birdseeds,
a Walmart plastic bag
blown there by the wind,
oddly a lone tennis shoe.
I like the snow better.
But then again, I like my sins hidden
under the snow.

Very reflective. No wonder snow is consider a symbol of purity, integrity. So saddens me to find dead birds–a reminder of our own fragility.

How true this is–I grew up in a northern city, and it doesn’t take long for the snow to become despoiled, discolored, and altogether unpleasant–here in this piece, the unpleasant things are covered, but it’s deceptive and impermanent. Very well done 55, and thanks for playing.

I like the (look of) snow too for how well it hides the sins we commit against our world, including mine, which may be little, but by their existence, too big.

I wonder about that guy who lost his shoe in the snow and maybe desperately tried to find it. Yes – snow covers a lot of things though sometimes it can be healing if we look at our sins and get them forgiven and gone

It actually was a small pink child’s shoe. No children in the neighborhood and under untracked snow. BIG mystery.

Excellent! Last line is great, so is “It reveals sins committed over the / seven days it lay there, doing nothing”
