Today is Quadrille Monday at dVerse Poets Pub. A quadrille is a form unique to dVerse – exactly 44 words excluding the title and including a word at the choice of the Pub Host. Today the word is “murmur”. Come join us as De Jackson (Whimsy Gizmo) is our host today.
Sign of Spring
The sky looks sad today –
spits of rain
clouds over all.
wandering about the yard
I look at the sodden lawn.
I walk over to the flowering quince
and see tiny tight red buds
all over the black branches.
Behold! A murmur of spring.

Ohhhh. “A murmur of spring” — how perfect. This line is like a tiny bud, waiting to unfold. LOVE.

It is almost like the sea murmuring when the wind goes through the bush. I love it for so many reasons.

The cuttings of the shrub were brought over from England a couple of centuries ago. It has gifted hundreds of cuttings in its day. The bush is huge and soon will be full of pink flowers. It is my favorite spring bush. I have moved this around to every where I have lived since I was 30. It is resilient and generous. The birds love to hide from the hawks in its foliage.

I noticed some buds today as well. I wondered if they were too early, but welcomed them.

When we were driving into Philadelphia the other day I noticed buds on some of the trees. Even though it’s cold, spring is coming!
