For Poets United, Midweek Motif – Human.
Like Humans
I love.
I weep.
I feel pain
both in my soul
and in my body.
I get cold.
I get hot.
I get thirsty.
I get hungry.
I walk among the trees
and look up at the stars.
I howl when the moon is full
just like the humans do.
It is amazing how much like us
these humans are.

oh yes we are all that we howl like wolfs. Unfortunately there are some who don’t get much further than that

Very interesting point of view! Is the narrator animal or vegetable? Earthling or alien? What is it they have that we have not? To hear those who love wolves and dogs, it is loyalty, playfulness, compassion. To hear those who love trees, it is affinity with silence and love.

The narrator is what ever you want it to be. I myself thought of wolves but that is up to the reader

We are more like wolves than most people know. I love this, Toni. I am having trouble finding words for this prompt. I am too preocuupied with the children at the border, so my thoughts are not very kind. Sigh.

Then do your worst Sherry. We deserve it! And thank you for getting my poem.

Love the wolf’s perspective. Only if in reality humans were like the wolves and let life be. Sigh.

…and that is another problem with humans that they disregard the feelings of all the other inhabitants in the world, whether they be mammals, birds, fish, insects or whatever. Our failure to protect wild animals in their own habitat is a disgrace.

What a wonderful way to say, what humans are. Humans are complex, so complex, it is hard for us to understand “us.” If only we could step outside ourselves, we might be able to see more clearly. It is not hard to see why we make such a mess of things.

Love the angle you went with this. Beautifully spoken through the eyes of the wolf.

I interpret your poem differently. It could be one group of humans discovering that other groups of humans are just like them. Whether one is an American by birth, an American by naturalization, an undocumented resident, an undocumented wanting to immigrate….we all love, feel pain, get hungry, etc. We are all more alike than different.

I like your interpretation!

A wolf might see some similarities, and scorn others. I’d like to howl at a listening moon right now.

Go ahead! I do it on a monthly basis. My neighbors have gotten used to it.
