Black and White tanka

For the Tuesday Platform at Real Toads. Because as Cole Porter once said in a song, It’s Too Darn Hot. So I am posting a tanka from back in the winter just to get cool.

Black and White
white snow black branches
breathe slowly while dreaming of
awakening spring
and birds huddle in tangled
tunnels warm and unafraid

Thank you for the cooling breeze, Toni. Refreshing, watching my robin nest from within the cool of my office.

That’s what we need, just a little snow….

It is as you say too darn hot. So eagerly waiting for the rains.
That tanka provided the much-needed image of coolness and spring’s warmth. I like the idea of huddling birds – this communion is what makes it come alive. Very well-penned. 🙂

One must do what one must, in order not to burst into flames.

I’m usually the only one around the house celebrating above 90s weather, while everyone gives slightly mystified (and sweaty) looks. It must be a Caribbean thing–most of us thrive in the heat.

I don’t know about a Carribean thing. I see people all the time playing sports, running on the beach…and liking it! I like sitting on my back porch at night in summer. I prefer cold stark winter but then I am strange. The link was there yesterday and then pour, it was gone. I put it back just now. Kerry mentioned Mr.L was being strange. Who knows?

I adore this, both in composition and spirit. I loathe hot weather. High summer is too bright, too hot, too crowded, too loud and too people-y. I want to be a bird in a wood pile.

Do we always long for cold when it’s warm and for spring when it’s winter…? maybe we need that longing to keep moving…

I wouldn’t want to be a tree branch but it must be nice to sleep through adversity and “awaken” when things are nice (spring) again.
