dead flowers

For Kerry’s Camera Flash prompt at Real Toads.

dead flowers
in the morning
the sadness of summer sun
seeps through the curtains,
warmth seen but not felt –
the soap smells of flowers
wilted and long dead

Morning by Clarence White 1906 fair use

“The sadness of summer sun seeps through the curtains.” I wish I had written those words.

But preserved and re-purposed nonetheless. Sometimes that’s the only and best thing to do with things that are fading. But i realize this is a mood piece, and you’ve struck the mood perfectly.

You painted the right mood onto this pic.
The summer sun, now cooled… in the same room but sad. Love it

Heart-squeezing from start to finish, such desolation… when what springs is dead, when the sweet reminder brings to mind death and loss.

The bathroom is one of the safe places you can muse when there are others in the house. Beautfully written Kanzensakura.

Ah, Toni! I love the sibilance and the imagery in:
    ‘the sadness of summer sun
    seeps through the curtains’
and I can smell that soap,

This is a skilful capture of the melancholy mood linked to the muted sunlight and the odour of dead flowers.

What a great ending line. I think you took the sepia tone and used it as ink, truly remarkable.

It doesn’t seem to be an encouraging morning to look forward to. It happens sometimes!

Sometimes it is a good idea to go back to bed. This is beautiful writing, Toni, it captures the mood and color of the art.
