For Kim’s Quadrille prompt over at dVerse. The prompted word is “earth”. The song was one of my Aunt Pearl’s favorites and she taught me how to sing and play it on the guitar when I was 11. Two versions: Aunt Pearl’s favorite by Mr. Hopkins and my favorite by Fats Domino
Aunt Pearl
My Great-Aunt Pearl was an earthy woman.
Lush, sensual, nurturing.
She used to play blues on the guitar and sing,
her voice roughened from cigarettes
And scotch.
She taught me to play the guitar.
Black curly hair and sapphire eyes.
A truly beautiful soul.

I might of known you’d be a blues lover; I adore the blues–and your aunt Pearl would have been right at home with the gang I ran with in the 60’s.

Blues has always been a part of my life. When I worked in New Orleans, Blues was always playing somewhere. You’d think it would be Dixieland jazz but nope, it was blues. My family members and their friends would often sit on the front porch at night and sing and play music. The window was left often so the piano would waft its way out.

I love your approach to the prompt, with your earthy aunt, Toni. She sounds wonderful. I also enjoyed both versions of the song.

I am in love with your great-aunt Pearl, “an earthy woman.
Lush, sensual, nurturing.” Every child needs her. And to sing you the blues and teach you guitar, still guiding your fingers after all these years. I always have trouble in mind. Love these two versions, thanks for adding a great soundtrack!

She was a beauty. The black hair and piercing blue eyes run on my family…black Irish. Alas, I did not inherit them. Brown and brown. But now my hair is all white so there is that. ??
