Forewarned is Four Legged

For Izy’s Out of Standard Prompt on Real Toads: Creature Feature. The creature must:
1. Be dressed in something unexpected.
2. Have a favorite song to sooth it’s rage.
3. Know only one word.
4. Be very afraid of something commonplace.

To be honest I am sick and tired of all the political stuff, the trump stuff so I am ignoring the obvious.

Forewarned is Four Legged

I was lost along the shore
running from the man who sought to do me harm.
The loons singing their weird tremolos
Their hooting –
Suddenly behind me I hear the snap of branch
and the odd tinkling of a bell.
I begin to run again.
I cannot outrun the beast close on my heels.
I trip and over my head
soars the beast.
I cower in fear.
Being still, so very still.
It snuffles at me
Then
begins to lick me.
I look up into the face of a magnificently
huge werewolf.
It – she
is wearing a pink collar with a bell.
I reach up to tentatively touch her.
She gives a doggy smile.
“love” she croons.
“love”
I use her bulk to get up off the ground.
I begin to walk and she cavorts beside me.
She stops and the hairs raise on her nap.
Her fear of the man is palpable.
Growling she leaps and begins to tear apart
the man who had been chasing me.
She rips him from limb to limb.
Under the full moon she lifts her head
and begins to howl.

I loved every line of this, especially “love….love….”.

Thank Goodness for the dog, I love him wearing the pretty collar with bells. He’s a good caretaker also. (Like me, the word, ‘trump’ knows no capitalization.)

I love the haunting loons singing their weird tremolos, the sudden snap of branch and the speeding up of the pace until the trip – and the twist of the werewolf wearing a pink collar with a bell! And what an ending!

The imagery of being hunted and then saved by a werewolf is perfect… man is beast and beast is best you might say,
