With Head In Hand

For Kerry’s Camera Flash Prompt on Real Toads. The form is a Quadrille, a poem of exactly 44 words, created by the poets at dVerse Poets Pub. usually a Quadrille consists of a prompted word. Today it consists of a photo.

With Head in Hand
I give you my thoughts and dreams.
I wish I could give you my heart
But alas,
I would die without it.
So I give you my visions,
My dreams,
My words,
My poetry, my heresy.
I give you the best that I have.

That’s a trooper. I wonder if we all don’t whisper this, returning to the Imaginary Garden with our next poem.

I wonder too… it sounds like this is the best we can give, and we continue giving… but maybe we are carving little piece of our heart every time…

    … my heresy.
I give you the best that I have.”

Stupid heart beating faster when love is involved whilst the brain controls all and even today we persist with that misnomer, whilst more obvious indicators are ignored.

All of what I have is mine is yours except for my heart. Yours to have and hold, except for my heart.

‘With Head in Hand’ – a brilliant title, Toni, and very Oscar Wilde. I especially love the lines:
    ‘My poetry, my heresy.
I give you the best that I have’.

poetry as heresy? I really like the idea – and I think this is just so apt and well placed in this poem …. and as others have noted, a very cool reading of the image – it has a distinct flavour to it – I suspect perhaps, Wilde was more than walking with the title in hand, and yet, the words are still yours.

Thank you Pat. I did study Wilde in detail and wrote in his style some poems and of course, the Dorian Grey Series for my MFA. I didn’t intend to put Oscar in the title but then, he shows up when he will.

Awesome! You have written to the prompt eloquently – and pinned your words brilliantly – and movingly – to an intriguing, nuanced title.

Ah, I like your poem. Less gruesome than many of the contributions. Smiles. Visions, dreams, and words are good gifts!

I like your approach to the photo, Toni. It’s like a mini-manifesto.

When we give the best that we have, surprising things can happen. Surprisingly good things.
