For Real Toads Tuesday platform. This haibun only has 39 words, more than enough.I feed a family of ten feral cats on a daily basis. Slowly I am getting them all fixed with rabies shots.
Haibun: Cedars against snow
Against the snow on the hillside, the cedars show up almost black. The wind whistles over the snow; the occasional bark of crows wafts over the meadow.

Thank you, Toni, for helping our furry friends, which most of humanity has abandoned. Star (a rescued kitten that I took in), would like to thank you, for helping her cousins. It sadden me, most feral cats that are caught, will die.

Yes they will either through harsh conditions or euthanasia at the county shelter. They rarely use it but I have fixed a cozy place for them as well. Pat Star for me!

First of all, when I hear cedars and snow I always think of that wonderful melancholy in the book “Snow falling on cedars”… I don’t know if you ever read it… it deals with the Japanese being sent off to camps during the war… with that in mind the image of the hungry feral cat took a tone of melancholy too.

I love Snow falling on Cedars. Wonderful book. The feral cats can be melancholy but I have fixed for them a warm place and the four kittens are so danged cute – jumping fuzzballs
