for shay’s prompt, the thylacine for fireblossom Friday.
In the Lost Land Beyond the Rainbows
“As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life… — leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks — on your body or on your heart — are beautiful. Often, though, they hurt.” Anthony Bourdain
In a land farther away than the sun used to set,
Farther away than the moonbeams,
Still farther away than the stars.
Lived creatures – gentle and ferocious,
More beautiful than the last rainbow.
Humans were not allowed there.
No one hunted the unicorns
Or the dragons or the
Tasmanian tiger.
They lived on the colors of the flowers
And the honey given by the bees.
Some say this land still exists but I say,
We humans have destroyed it and all of the creatures.
We waged war on this gentle land
And like savages we killed all we came into contact with.
Some we imprisoned in zoos and gave human names to.
Benjamin was one.
Benjamin separated from his kind
Died alone in that too small pen.
Others died by the hands of hunters.
Although I ask for mercy for us humans
I don’t think there will be any –
Only the same kind we gave these hapless
And innocent creatures.

it seems to me that it says somewhere in the bible that those who terrify animals will themselves be terrified by animals. Seems fair to me. Nothing else bothers me as much as what’s been done to the natural world just because mankind could, or wanted everything for themselves.

Exactly. It also says that what you do to the least of these shall be dine to you seven fold.

I agree with every word that our time of eradication will come too, almost certainly by our own hands as we slowly destroy the Earth and ourselves with it!

This is really tragic. Some beautiful creations on this earth are extinct just because of some stupid acts like hunting.
You have put all this beautifully. Thank you so much for it.

There is no forgiviness….a very sad tale…

If we could just be forgiven… but I do think we don’t deserve anything good anymore.

Nor do I

Your poem, too, is both gentle and ferocious. Oh, to be able to believe in the fairytale! But alas….
Dec 22, 2018 @ 20:24:51
Alas is right.

Beautifully told, a land of enchantment, in which we would never be welcome.
