For De’s prompt at Quadrille Monday. The prompted word is kiss. A quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words and uses a prompted word.
Haibun: Winter Ocean
Walking along the shore, snow begins. The sky is grey overhead and golden sand becomes white. Broken shells roll in the surf. I hold my face up to the sky to be kissed.

This makes me COLD! 😉 But so so beautiful.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 15:46:11
It is freezing on the Atlantic beaches but such a wonderful place ad time to walk – usually the beaches are deserted.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 15:52:12
I do remember the winter wind from the sea… so cold and raw, but O the scent is what I remember most.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:05:53
Strolling the Pacific coast beaches this time of year are also chilled and deserted; just left-handed to your right.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 17:49:58
The same on this coast. Just depends on if one is walking up or down the beach.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:05:58
I’d have to agree with De. There’s certainly a chill to this poem, but in the best way. Beautiful write.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:13:50
I like the visual of holding your face to the sky to be kissed. Nice.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:17:50
I love your pleasure in the moment. The haiku is cold but lovely.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:17:53
This has the air of a mysterious rendezvous.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:33:59
You make the cold seem warm and fuzzy 🙂
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:40:48
(shivering!)
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:51:20
your poem takes you there, as witness to the cold bloom of winter’s love. sounds weird to type it that way, but it is what it is ❤
Feb 11, 2019 @ 16:52:23
“Winter romance blooms.” I love that. 🙂
Feb 11, 2019 @ 17:15:48
Beautiful, Toni! I love the broken shells rolling in the surf, the lazy snowflakes kissing the shore and the ocean kissing back.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 17:46:52
I’ve been to the seashore when it was cold, but never when it snowed. That seems special to me. “winter romance” Love that.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 17:48:02
Oh gosh this is absolutely breathtaking, Toni! ❤️ I love “lazy snowflakes kiss the shore.” 🙂
Feb 11, 2019 @ 18:51:49
I like this ménage à trios of the snowflakes, ocean, and shore. Very romantic Toni.
Feb 11, 2019 @ 21:23:46
I loved this, I miss being near the ocean during winter 🖤
Feb 11, 2019 @ 22:52:33
Great Haibun. I love the picture of the oceans romance! A lasting one that goes on and on,,,
Feb 12, 2019 @ 02:32:32
Ah, what a beautiful winter romance! This snowflake kiss is something so warming despite the cold touch. A lovely haibun, Toni.
Feb 12, 2019 @ 02:59:34
“lazy snowflakes kiss…” such cool romance.
Feb 12, 2019 @ 08:11:33
“golden sand becomes white” —- oh my friend, you do have a way with words in a haibun. Just a beautiful description in its simplicity of 44 words. And we both have the idea of being kissed by snowflakes in our posts — although yours I would say is exquisite and mine is a ditty —- and therein lies the difference between our writing styles as well. Just beautiful, Toni!
Feb 12, 2019 @ 13:24:24
Yes!! Winter at the beach has its own special qualities.
Feb 12, 2019 @ 21:00:08
Yes it really does
Feb 12, 2019 @ 18:00:25
Ah, and the sea meeting the shore is also a great romance! Love the image of a snowflake kiss and the ocean kissing back.

When it comes to love and kisses whatever season will not be relevant. It is warmth all the way

Yes it is. Although I love the ocean in winter more than in hot summer.
Feb 13, 2019 @ 13:30:59
The poem makes me shiver, but also makes me wish I could walk that cold shore.
Feb 13, 2019 @ 13:32:40
I love the ocean in winter, more so than in summer. Wish you could join me. Nothing but the sound of waves crashing!
Feb 14, 2019 @ 17:30:20
Snowflake kisses are lovely
Feb 16, 2019 @ 10:22:35
Ah, the Atlantic in winter! I hear an echo of Jimi Hendrix in the last line of your prose : “…Excuse me while I kiss the sky…”
🙂
