Solitude

For my prompt at Wednesday Muse and for the Wednesday Motif at Poets United – Solitude

Solitude
“Don’t be afraid to walk alone. Don’t be afraid to like it.” Zhangjiajie

walking through the woods alone
I revel in the sounds of the woods –
birds, leaves rustling, small creatures scrabbling.
I hug the solitude to me
like I would a lover.

the scrabbling, the scurrying, rustling in the woods, as life unfolds, in the silence for it all – the companion of solitude becomes indeed, like a comforting and intimate love affair and treasured lover –

so well expressed, those last two lines really clinched it Toni 🙂

and thanks so much for deciding to begin a new prompt – how delightful 🙂

Short and delightful! A walk out in the woods is one of my favourite, for a dose of solitude.

I love doing that myself, but better than that is to sit down quietly in the forest and and witness everything return to normal and come alive again.

That is beautiful. The internal contrast of solitude as a lover is excellent.

Thanks to you I am now reading The Narrow Road to the Deep North, trying to get to the nub of the haibun. Thought you might like to know…thank you for the inspiration.

Oh Sarah! I am so very glad to hear this. I am sure you have already noticed the difference. There are several different translations out there but to be honest, they are all good. Enjoy it. It is truly a seminal work. I wish more people would read it.

This is really beautiful, Toni. I enjoyed doing the promt but I messed up and only wrote four lines. I’ll have to pay better attention next time. 🙂

I’m enchanted by the 4th line. I can see the speaker’s face glowing with delight, embraced solitude has such a warming effect on the soul. Also, I can totally relate. 🙂

I can picture you striding through the woods, hugging that solitude to you like a favourite jumper, and then climbing a tree to play your violin!
