The Angel

The Angel
“In heaven an angel is nobody in particular. George Bernard Show

the angel looks as confused as I.
it’s been looking over this cemetery
for years.  and all it sees are the same dead
put into holes – and covered with dirt
that doesn’t grow any flowers or grass.
tacky silk flowers adorn each grave,
faded in the sun and blown by the wind
to another grave or across the road.
It ponders the people planted in this garden –
a garden that produces no fruit
or vegetables, no flowers or trees.
in rain or sun,
snow or heat.
it just looks and ponders
and continues to look confused.

The angel does have a confused pondering look! I like that you wrote this through the angels eyes with the longing for real flowers instead of fake. That adds such a depth to the loss on the poem. I hope you have a nice Memorial Day Toni. 🌷

I have often wondered about these Angels too. I think they are wondering when they will be released from their stoney pondering.

I like the idea of a confused angel. It’s no wonder she’s confused, watching humanity.

I am sure the angels are highly confused by our antics and I feel sorry for this one in particular . .

Yes, yes… I have photographed several angels, but I have never seen another one like this confused/contemplative angel. I found it in a cemetery in Galveston, TX.

When you step back from the collective agreements we all make, it does all seem confusing. I like the idea of people planted in a garden. Invisible fruit?

Perhaps it’s wondering why so many graves and so few souls have joined him.
