Conversations with Ravens

A gogyohka, which translates in Japanese to five line poem. It has five lines – that is it. For Lynda’s prompt at dVerse Poets Pub, artwork by Jackie Hulbert. Pick a painting and write how it inspires you.  Thank you for the wonderful prompt Lynda!

Conversations with Ravens
“And the Raven’s couch is spread with weeds, High on the hollow tree;” – Thomas D’Arcy McGee, The Penitent Raven

talking to ravens is best done
when one is alone –
the raven will not laugh at the conversation –
it will carry it in its beak
and place it carefully in its nest

used by permission of Jackie Hulbert conspiring with ravens

I love your idea of what is told to the raven being a shiny bauble that will be taken and hidden in a safe place where new life will grow.

I read your title and immediately thought: Quoth the raven, Nevermore! I like the idea of the raven keeping conversations, unlike Poe’s raven, which meant no good. 🙂

This is such lovely imagery. I can so clearly see the raven taking the conversation and placing it in its nest. Beautifully crafted.

This raven is wise and knows how to keep a secret as it carries the message home.
