Rain Walk

For Midweek Motif at Poets United – weather.

Rain Walk
“I am a being of Heaven and Earth, of thunder and lightning, of rain and wind, of the galaxies.” – Eden Ahbez

It is raining.
Coming down hard and beating against my umbrella
like a slew of tiny drummers.
I am on my daily walk.
I walk regardless of the weather –
hot, cold, snow, rain –
it is hot summer and a sudden shower
is drenching me in spite of the umbrella.
Rain steam rises from the road.
It smells wonderful!
The wind is sweeping and throwing the rain against me.
I splash through puddles,
jump over ditches that have become mini-rapids.
I love sudden summer showers.
I love seeing things all washed clean and shiny.
My neighbors are huddled in their houses sipping coffee.
Not me!
I am walking.
Get out of my way!

So nice that you walk rain or shine. It’s wonderful that your walks inspired this lovely poem. I felt like I was on a walk with you, enjoying the rain.

This is absolutely lovely! 😀 I am loving the attitude in this poem .. to walk regardless of the hot, cold, snow, rain ❤️ that’s how it should be.

This is something my wife and I did in our mid 30’s laughing as we went along amazed at the grumpy people we met who couldn’t see the joy of rain with their heads bowed with a cross look on their faces! This brought back some great memories.

Yes! Embrace life. Feel and sense everything. I felt very alive in my memory of such rains – you described the sensations perfectly. Thanks for this wonderful insistence on life!

Cool. I am somewhat like your neighbor. Not going out in the rains. Like now, it’s raining and I’m enjoying it being inside with my mother. A lovely poem. I specially loved that umbrella line.

And if I had to guess, I bet you do your share of dancing naked in the rain too! Love this Toni.

I was on the rain walk with you, Toni, loving every step! There is so much going on in this steady-paced, busy poem: the rain beating on the umbrella; the rain steam rising from the road (with its wonderful smell); the sweeping, throwing and splashing; and everything clean and shiny. Yes – get out of my way – I’m splashing through!
