Why are all the sexy guys chefs and…geeky?

Anmol is hosting dVerse and asks us to write a profile of someone.  In the title, I am referring of course to Chef Alton Brown.  I love a knife wielding man with brains and humor.

Why are all the sexy guys chefs and…geeky?
“Everything in food is science. The only subjective part is when you eat it.”
“Laughing brains are more absorbent.” Alton Brown

He is a southern boy,
says po-lenta and grits are the same
and proves it.
He constructs a pepper grinder from
a grinder and a power drill.
Builds constructs of sugar crystals
and fat from Tinker Toys.
Interacts with puppets representing yeast
or bacteria.
He is the science guy.
He is the chef.
He is a member of a band
and does a mean two step.
He is witty and chops veggies
like he was on fire.
And he alive and loves life
and food and his rescue dogs.

This is a man of action… I would love to cook with a toolbox, you gave me ideas on that pepper grinder.

I like the sassy title, Toni! I don’t know this chef, so I couldn’t compare your poem with a pre-conception, but you made him real for me. I’m impressed with the pepper grinder constructed from a grinder and a power drill, the puppets representing yeast or bacteria, and the fiery chopping of veg – I’m a slow, nervous chopper and admire anyone who is a professional chopper…wait – that came out wrong!. Oh yes, and rescue dogs.

I love it when you touch your Chef roots, or your martial arts, or your violin–it makes you as rare as chicken teeth and as authentic as acid rain. I don’t think this was a portrait of Boudain, but it s certainly vivid.

LOL. It is a portrait of Alton Brown. The portrait on Bourdain would have been painted in greys and slate blue. This one is full tilt 70’s gold and chocolate brown.

How interesting! What a creative description! Love the pepper grinder made from a power drill! I could see that happening. His food must have a lot of pepper in it!!

I love the details you pick out to build your portrait – more a 3-D collage than a painting. Lots of fun.

Every identity has many facets. You’ve shown the multidimensionality of this chef. (K)

Lol. I met my match with my husband. This man is the only “tv chef” except for Ina Garten I think is worth 2cents. I have been watching him off and on for 10 years.
