Today for the Quadrille over at dVerse Poets. De has given us the word “cobble”. Note about cobblestones. As a retired engineer, I amass all sorts of useless information. Most of the “cobblestones” after the 1860’s are actually limestone setts cut into the shape of a brickbat and set into place on sand. Cobbles are round flat stones brought here millenia ago by the glaciers. They are no primarily used to construct buildings.
Peach Cobbler
Making peach cobbler
with icecream on the side
always reminds me of my long dead
Father – the ripe peaches, the spices.
Hello Papa I say to it
when I pull it from the oven.
Such a sunny fruit cobbler always
makes my eyes rain.

Today is Quadrille Monday at dVerse Poets Pub. A quadrille is a form unique to dVerse – exactly 44 words excluding the title and including a word at the choice of the Pub Host. Today the word is “murmur”. Come join us as De Jackson (Whimsy Gizmo) is our host today.
Sign of Spring
The sky looks sad today –
spits of rain
clouds over all.
wandering about the yard
I look at the sodden lawn.
I walk over to the flowering quince
and see tiny tight red buds
all over the black branches.
Behold! A murmur of spring.

Kicking Leaves
I like my morning walks
especially in autumn –
leaves have fallen –
they lie stacked up on the sides of our lane.
I kick a group of them up in the air.
A snake goes flying.
Now, ain’t that a kick in the head?

Everywhere Blue – (for De)
Oh! To be a cloud in the sky floating lazily or waves in a cerulean lake washing upon the shore . High mountains topped with snow standing guard and smiling.
clouds in autumn blue
sky drifting free – waves below
laughing like children

Victoria is hosting our Quadrille Monday for today. A quadrille is a poetic form created by our own Bjorn Rudberg consisting of exactly 44 words (excluding the title) and usually using a prompted word in the body of the poem. Today the word is “fear”. come join us to read these jewels of poetry at: http://dversepoets.com/2017/07/31/quadrille-37-be-not-afraid/
Childhood Lost
I fear we have lost our childhood.
Children dressed as adults and
siring children –
All subject to drugsviolencepeerpressure.
But a hummingbird!
Fearless it goes about
Sipping buzzing
From nest to flower –
Oh! to return to childhood
On the wings of a hummingbird.

I am linking this to dVerse Poets Pub, Quadrille Monday. This is the second Quadrille. The first one I will not be linking up as planned because….I was not happy with it. Come join us at the virtual pub, dVerse Poets Pub for quick poems of exactly 44 words using the prompted word. http://dversepoets.com/2017/02/13/quadrille-25/ The concept of chinmoku on the top level means, silence or reticence. It is more than that – it is a way of communication, of feeling the space or silence between the notes, like the scale played on a piano. One has to be totally immersed in the Japanese culture to truly understand chinmoku.
Chinmoku 沈黙
The silence between the notes
stretches out like long silk scarves
twisting around posts
fluttering in the winds
of now and then
of rain and sun.
like ghosts of long gone laughter
the silence between the words
wrap around your heart and pulls…tight.

Today at dVerse Poets Pub, Grace has given us the word “green” for the Quadrille word prompt “. What a lovely word for the blending of late spring and early summer. Poems must use the prompt word (title doesn’t count) in a poem of exactly 44 words – no more, no less. I am writing this poem in memory of my friend Peggie Duggan who died a year ago May 15. Her memory is ever green among those of us who were gifted by her light.
Tender Green
when love was green
and tenderly grew through the still
frozen ground of winter –
when green memories bloomed
in early spring frost –
I reach back to draw them near again
but they dissolve in my weeping hands
and return to sleep in frozen earth

Skipping Hearts
You took me in your hand –
Felt the edges of me,
Weighed me in your hand
then looking at the horizon,
Pulled back your arm and threw me
Across the ocean of your heart –
skipped me
until I sunk in the depths
