Cold Kiss

For Poets United Mid-week Motif – Vanity

Cold Kiss
Your kiss goodbye at the airport
reminded me of how years ago,
I held a narcissus up to my lips
and tasted it
kissed it –
cold and bitter from the snow.
my vanity was thinking you
would love me forever,
how you would stay with me forever.
cold bitter kisses goodbye.
the thoughts of that narcissus kiss
still makes me shiver.

We remember…thoughts after All Saints Day

“Of all the comrades that e’er I had
They are sorry for my going away
And all the sweethearts that e’er I had
They would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I should rise and you should not
I’ll gently rise and I’ll softly call
Good night and joy be with you all”   Partial lyrics to Parting Glass
