Not Closed

For De’s Quadrille Prompt over at dVerse Poets Pub and for Positive Prompted Poetry.  The word for today is “closed”.

Not Closed
“The first blooms of spring always make my heart sing.” — S. Brown

small business and restaurants
are closed – as is schools
government offices.
I walk around the neighborhood
and smile.
Not closed is the blue sky over head
and the dogwood trees,
the birds singing,
small yellow butterflies
hovering over dandelions.
lilacs bloom –
Spring is open!

Good point about spring still being open.

Exuberant! Hopefully all that isn’t really important will fall away

I love the opening of spring, and each sign you gift us: dogwoods and dandelions, butterflies and green! I’m smiling, too.

Spring is ALWAYS open for business as usual. Perhaps even more so this year, as the planet begins to heal, as we humans must rest.

I am thankful that spring is open, offering us the beauty of nature. I have always enjoyed the open air boutique of spring.

    A lovely uplifting poem.

I love these lines, Toni, they convey what I experienced on my afternoon walk:
‘Not closed is the blue sky over head
    and the dogwood trees,
    the birds singing’.

We have a much higher rate of the virus than you do and in quite few places, the population is much denser. We have stay at home orders from.most of the govs so as to try to flatten the curve of the spread of the virus. In NY state, people are dropping like flies. Many of the restaurants are closed and others are offering curbside pickup or delivery only. The economic impact on the US is going to be devastating regardless of what the Trumpler says. Health workers are stretched beyond their limits and many of them haven’t seen their family in about 3 weeks.

I live in NYC and the weather has been very nice these past few days. One gets the sense that everybody wants the quarantine to end immediately. Literally counting the days to this virus plateau.

Cheers for spring is open. We can only walk around the neighborhood – our parks are closed so we can’t meander along the boardwalk and lakes. Take care!

At least you can walk around your neighborhood! I enjoy walking around my neighborhood better than the parks. #1 you don’t have to drive to get there. #2 there aren’t as many people in our neighborhood #3 you get a chance to appreciate the sounds of birds and quiet rather than all the distraction of other people. Frankly, I am enjoying this lockdown.

I LOVE the positive attitude here, Toni! So much is open still to us. We are going to have stormy clouds and rain today in Boston….I prefer to think of it as clouds opening up to us. I’ve always called these days make-your-own-sunshine-days! Yes, on our daily walks as masked marauders we revel in the daffodils and crocus and just the fresh air. Stay safe, my friend.
