It isn’t the fears of childhood
that keep me awake.
It is the fears of adulthood.
If only such fears could be banished by uttering a single word.
I listen for your breathing…
at last I hear the soft
puh, puh, puh

Well, I am happy to know I am not the only one who wakes up in the night and listens to ensure my husband is breathing. So much truth here Toni, I guess this comes with aging.

There’s a lot of terror in the waiting to hear those puffs.

Yes it is. My parents were protective of me and made sure I didn’t suffer undue traumas. The first Disney moving I saw which was Dumbo, left me in tears and with bad nightmares. No more Disney movies for me. I appreciate them doing that for me, for banishing the closet monster, for all the tings they did when I was a child. I miss them and miss them banishing my adult fears.

“Fears of adulthood”. Those of us who never grow up certainly fear adulthood. Or there’s the fears we have as adults. Nice ambiguity there.

That’s the most reassuring sound in the world, if it’s someone you care about. Anything else can be worked out if you have that.

A very real and deep fear indeed. Long may you have the reassurance!

Adult fears are deeper than those of children but all can be terrifying. Assurance from another helps a lot. A nice reminder, Toni.

Adult fears have so many more textures.
