Haibun: Hunting Hawks

For De’s Quadrille prompt at dVerse. A quadrille is a poem of exactly 44 words, sans title, using the prompted word. Today the word is “wink”.also posting this on Real Toads Tuesday Platform.

Haibun: Hunting Hawks
The sun gave a wink and suddenly, it was fall. I awoke to frost on the lawn and leaves changing from green to gold. Hawks glide slowly in the sky, hunting for food.
leaves drift downward –
spicy leaves season the earth –
blue skies overhead

This is a perfect combination of many things worth loving–fall, birds of prey, and autumn blue skies!

Love the way you paint that first morning of frost, though I kind of love the weight of fog as well.

That first frost descends uninvited, fickle and fervent, killing the last blossom from Indian Summer’s garden. I do love me some hawk imagery.

I really like this, Toni. It did seem like the sun winked and it was autumn. I love the imagery, but particularly the haiku with the spicy leaves seasoning the blue sky. That’s just how it was here a few days ago.

One wink and summer is gone. This fits well with my poem of the day. I gave the wrong link at Toads. This is the correct one http://www.looseleafnotes.com/2018/11/fall-flavor-2/

Best not blink, huh, Toni? You said sooo much with sooo little. Great write.
We (Texas Gulf Coast inlands) have had a lovely fall, temps into the 80F’s high, occasional low 90’s, then lows in the 60’s and 70’s. It came early this year for us, mid October and has lasted already three weeks. It is projected for another month, gradually cooling more.

Such a vivid scene of colour and movement…the busy transition of fall. Those hawks would be beautiful to watch. I always feel privileged or blessed when I see one.

The first frost can be such a spectacle to usher in a different set of cold feel and colors in the landscape! A great feel of change, Toni!
