Peaceful Leonids

For Sherry’s Prompt at Real Toads, Wordy Saturday, places of healing.

Peaceful Leonids
Lying in the darkness in the cold night
Wrapped in my grandmother’s quilt,
I watch the Leonids weaving light in the black sky
singing their way to earth.
Peace coming up from the earth
And down from the sky.
I watch the meteors bursting into light
And I am healed.

How wonderful, bathed in the light from the meteor shower, wrapped in love in your grandmother’s quilt…….it doesnt get much better. Loved this, Toni.

The grandmother’s quilt! I am making one (hopefully many more) for each of my children. I love the process, the love that goes into them… sigh. Lovely poem.

I haven’t seen meteors for years. Perhaps I had better do some night walking! What a delightful poem.

This is lovely — the celestial wonder and the all-encompassing feeling of peace go hand in hand. I can totally picture this and that makes me smile. 🙂

We seem to have done it again, Toni! I’ve only just posted and got around to reading and we’ve both found solace in the night sky. I love the lines:
‘I watch the Leonids weaving light in the black sky
    singing their way to earth’.

I would have love to see it… and maybe the patience required to wait is what I need more than the vision itself.

It takes about an hour for your eyes to fully adjust to total darkness and then the waiting for the spits and spurts of the meteors. I have lain outside from 11 pm until 5 am on many a night watching. in the winter I have several sleeping bags inside each other and a quilt on top of that to say warm. It is a wonderful time.

Wow! I don’t believe I’ve ever seen one in my life. What a show, eh?

Who knows why we are nourished bearing witness to the greater mystery, but there it is in your poem, “peace coming up from the earth / And down from the sky.”
