Autumn Song
“Listen: Billy Pilgrim has come unstuck in time.” Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five
I went to sleep in summer
and awakened in autumn.
at night the cicadas clickclackthrum
rising and falling.
it is still hot, lord knows
but this morning was cool –
the day smells of dried grasses
and early fallen leaves clustered around
the bottom of the oak tree.
Autumn is beginning to stir –
to awaken.

I like this–passage of time and changing of the seasons–one foot in summer and one in autumn.

Thank you. It is that time of year here in the South straddling summer and autumn. but oh my goodness, it felt like early fall today!

It does happen just that quickly. I love the “clickclackthrum” of the cicadas. The colours of autumn and the smell of fallen leaves make it my favourite season.

Mine too Sherry. I start coming alive during autumn.

Ooh, this is lovely. That bit of onomatopoeia is a nice touch.

I’m so glad that I read your poem and Kim’s right next to each other… They are dancing the same healing tunes, the same sort of natural beauty that reminds us that life move circle and circle in order to go on. And the scent in the lines of your poem, the color of the leaves… are stunning.
Aug 06, 2017 @ 10:55:35
Thank you. What an honor to be read along side Kim’s poetry. And yes, life does continue to move on – to change.

and suddenly we have left summer behind…feels like that here today…windy and autumnal.

Autumn is beginning to stir –
to awaken.
The reality of Autumn is beginning to show again! The season’s cycle bids itself!

Where most of regard autumn as the time to prepare for sleep clearly there are other that see it as an opportunity…and they are hungry!
Aug 07, 2017 @ 07:33:15
Yes they are!
Aug 08, 2017 @ 06:29:49
